The World Health Organization is a unit of the United Nations exclusively devoted to public health. The goal of WHO is to fight diseases, whether transmissible as Ebola, or non-transmissible such as cancer. To do that, WHO is working with various NGOs, governments, and volunteers to help the poor, for example, to immunize against serious illnesses and to offer vaccines by raising public awareness of HIV or hygiene.
However, behind this "active" aspect of WHO, there may be many disagreements between some countries regarding funding, for example, funding of pollution control (many diseases are due to wastewater consumption, polluted air...). This can therefore be one of the points discussed during the debate. |
